[News via AnimeNewsNetwork]
A life-size version of the Monster Hunter game franchise
monster Gold Rathian (Rioreia Kishou Shu) was unveiled at a press event in
Osaka's Universal Studios Japan (USJ) theme park on Thursday. The Gold Rathian
measures about 20 meters (66 feet) long and features a moving head and glowing
red eyes. The statue is part of the "Monster Hunter the Real in Universal
Studios Japan" exhibit that is running from July 20 to September 30.
A life-size Silver Rathalos (Rioreusu Kishou Shu) statue,
which debuted at the last year's Monster Hunter event, is also returning for
this year's exhibit. The same press event announced that Guiness World Records
now recognizes the non-moving statue as the "biggest video game character
statue" in the world. The Silver Rathalos has a 17-meter (56-foot)
wingspan and measures about 20 meters from head to tail.
The "Monster Hunter the Real" event's other
attractions include displays of Monster Hunter weapons and items updated for
the Monster Hunter 3 (tri-) G "hunting action" game that shipped in
Japan last December. Fans can also take a souvenir photo with an "almost
actual size" version of the game character Airou dressed in USJ clothing.
